Delete your account
Last updated: September 23, 2026
In the app
Open GChat → Settings → Security → Delete account and confirm. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
Without the app
If you no longer have access to the app, email
privacy@gchat.tech
from any address with your @handle. We will ask you to confirm
ownership and delete the account within 30 days.
What is deleted
- Your handle, display name, bio, avatars and avatar history.
- Your public keys, pre-keys, devices and sessions, and your recovery backup.
- Your encrypted chat backup and its stored key (and your account disappears from people search).
- Your stories, playlists and uploaded audio, polls and reactions.
- Your contacts, message requests, blocks, join requests and group/channel memberships.
- Any messages still waiting on our server for delivery.
What is kept
An empty account record without any name or handle, so other people's chats and group histories stay consistent. Channels and groups you created remain for their other members, together with the posts published in those channels. Call records and call-quality statistics stay, but are no longer linked to a name or handle. Reports you sent and reports about your account are kept for moderation and legal obligations, including any message text a reporter attached. Messages already delivered live only on the recipients' devices and are not under our control. Deleted data may remain in our disaster-recovery database backups for up to about five weeks until they rotate out.
